FIRST READING:
Hab. 1: 2-3; 2: 2-4 "The just man will live by his faithfulness." The prophet Habakkah cries out to God-why do you look on when tyranny and discord abound. He answered that the unjust will flag while the upright will flourish.
RESPONSORIAL PSALM:
Ps. 95 "O that today you would listen to his voice! Harden not your hearts."
SECOND READING:
2 Tim. 1: 6-8, 13-14 "Never be ashamed of witnessing to the Lord."
GOSPEL ACCLAMATION:
1 Pet. 1: 25 "The word of the Lord stands for ever; it is the word given to you, the Good News."
GOSPEL: Lk. 17: 5-10
"If you had faith...."
The apostles ask Jesus to increase their faith. Jesus says that if their faith were the size of a mustard seed , they could say to a tree, be uprooted..... that we are servants of each other, and not masters over each other.
FOCUS: "The word of the Lord stands forever: it is the word given to you, the Good News." God is ever-present: it is up to us to discover what the gift of faith can do in our lives.
REFLECTION: "The mysteries and secrets of the kingdom of God first seek for believers that they may make them understanding. For faith is understanding's step, and understanding faith's attainment." St. Augustine
"When you pray, shut your eyes for a moment and try to concentrate your spiritual powers. If you get tired, raise your eyes to the icon or the lighted candle. Concentrating on prayer this way, the heart will find within itself that spiritual warmth which comes from Christ himself and fills one's whole being with peace and joy." St. Seraphim of Sarov
"And the only way to protect oneself against the devil is by constant remembrance of God: His remembrance must be imprinted in the heart by the power of the Cross, thus rendering the mind firm and unyielding. This is the aim at which all our efforts in the inner spiritual life are directed. Every Christian is called to follow this path, and if he travels instead in another direction, he strives in vain. Any man who has God within him also undertakes all the varied spiritual exercises with this same purpose in view: by means of voluntary self-denial he strives to call down the bounty of all-merciful God, that God may restore to him his former status, setting the imprint of Christ in his mind; as the Apostle says: 'My little children, of whom I travail in birth again until Christ be formed in you'." St. Simeon the New Theologian
APPLYING THE READINGS TO THE LITURGY: Faith is a key element in today's readings.
Penitential rite: Third form with second or seventh set of sample invocations
General Intercessions-
Introduction: My brothers and sisters, God our Father is our origin and guide who hears the prayers of all who praise him. Let us offer our prayers to God, whose gifts are without measure.
· For the Church of God: that we will joyfully proclaim and live our faith in Christ the eternal gift from God.
· For peace and well-being of the whole world, that God's gift to us in this life will lead us to salvation in the life to come.
· For those who suffer from hunger, sickness, or loneliness: that the gift of Christ's presence bring them health and peace,
· For our community and our families, who welcome Christ into their lives: that we all learn to receive him in the poor and suffering people of this world,
Opening Prayer: Alternate
Preface: Third preface in Ordinary time
Introduce the breaking of the bread: We are servants of God and the Eucharist sustains us in our faith, enlightening us to be able to respond.
Prayers over the people: Ninth
or
Solemn Blessing in Ordinary time: Fourth
Faith Formation
Let our prayers rise above the level of requests for favors or special treatment. Let us not ask God to do our work for us, nor ask Him to take away the pain of the consequences of our actions. Most important, let's not ask God to give us a special miracle, so we can have faith in Him. Instead, let us praise God, and thank Him for the faith and grace He has given us. Let us fall on our knees and adore Him, and accept His will for us.
· What were the apostles requesting when they asked for ncreased faith?
· What do you expect from God?
· What do you expect from the Catholic community?

Here I Am, Lord (Ward) PMB, WCH
Children's Liturgy of the Word
Have the children share instances when they have been rewarded for their actions. When have they not been rewarded? Would it be right to work and be helpful only if we were to receive a prize? While rewards are nice we cannot expect to be paid for everything we do. We must help out and not worry about what we'll get in return. God rewards us in ways beyond our understanding right now.
